The Science of Thirdhand Smoke – “The Science Of” Hosted by Students from the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA

Riley James, a student at Helix High School in San Diego, and Margaux Stack-Babich, the Community Outreach and Engagement Manager at the Morres Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego, interviewed the Thirdhand Smoke Resource Center team for “The Science Of” podcast. Listen to Center Director Dr. Georg Matt, Associate Director Dr. Lydia Greiner, Center Coordinator Dr. Sarah Lavallee, and San Diego State University student Christina Huerta share their experiences with thirdhand smoke research. They discussed what thirdhand smoke is, how it is researched, and how to share information about it.

“The Science Of” podcast is led by the Teen Center at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA in San Diego. The podcast is also supported by SchoolCAST, a company that helps high school students learn how to create and host a podcast. In each episode, high school students interview scientists about their research and career path. Students get to learn more about various STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) topics with real-life implications, and they can hear scientists’ stories about how they got involved in their field of study. This podcast series shows students that anyone can become a scientist, and it encourages them to pursue a science career path.
