Study Finds that Only Homes the Completely Ban Smoking Protect Children from Thirdhand Smoke Exposure

“A recent study published in China CDC Weekly found that while partial smoking restrictions inside the home can reduce children’s exposure to secondhand smoke, they do not fully protect against thirdhand smoke. Researchers surveyed families with preschool-aged children and found that only complete smoke free home rules were associated with substantially lower thirdhand smoke exposure. Because thirdhand smoke residue can linger on surfaces, clothing, furniture, and dust long after smoking has stopped, the findings reinforce that the best way to protect children is to maintain a completely smokefree home.”
